Pacific Bridge has an exhibition of new paintings by Nguyen Quang Huy at butterfly lounge in San Francisco.

Huy has been working primarily with oil on canvas in the two and a half years since his last exhibition at Pacific Bridge in Oakland (Mr. Nguyen, November – December 2000). In these new pieces, painted mostly in 2002 in Hanoi, Huy incorporates elements from his previous works on paper and silk, the illegible script laid down in a spiral, the featureless form of the Buddha, and creates a strong series of works that read like huge close up Polaroids of people. These paintings offer more nuance than Huy’s works on paper, some with facial features as if glimpsed through a fog. The scale and the subtlety of these paintings combined have a sensual quality.

Join us for the opening reception on Tuesday, July 22, 2003, from 6 – 9 PM. Exhibition through September 2003. Enjoy complimentary Vietnamese appetizers created by butterfly chef Rob Lam and listen to cool tunes by house djs.
